Hey Seattle Burners,

Do you all know about Piss Clear, the Burner magazine, that was around for 13 years? It’s been called “the Vice Magazine of the playa” – sharp and funny with an alternative view of Black Rock City. I found out that RE/Search Publications has published BURNING MAN LIVE, which has the best of all 13 years (1994-2007), including “Best of Black Rock City,” “Sex and Drugs,” “Playa Fashion Do’s and Don’ts,” “You Know You’re a Burner When…” “Borg Wars,” interviews with Larry Harvey (Burning Man cofounder) and Harley DuBois (Director of Community Services), and introductions by Brian Doherty, Adrian Roberts, and Malderor. This book is 320 pages, and HUGE (8.5 by 11 inches) of pure Burning Man history– highly recommended – with really great articles and photos.

Just go to the link below to check out the book or make an order:

http://www.researchpubs.com/Blog/?page_id=13&product_id=74

(while it looks like the link is incomplete, it works. if you do have any problems, though, you can just go to www.researchpubs.com)

Anyway, it's an amazing book and I suggest you all check it out, if interested.

NOTE: I found this message from another BM group I'm a part of. I ordered the book -- loved it, talked to the woman who is spreading the word -- and now I'm spreading the word, too. This reminds me of the old BM days, as well as the more recent. It's great fun!

When my friend got there, the dude didn't have a job for him. Now, I have great family going to the Burn that wants my friend to go and experience the beauty of our American counter culture, but he needs a ride. If anyone can help to show my friend a little love by providing a space in their car trip to the Burn, I will be more than eternally greatful. He can pay for gas and only needs a ride there-not a round-trip.

Hey this is perhaps a just in the nick of time-- I arrived here in Seattle tonight and tomorrow (May 5) is the first movie theater screening of my film COMMUNE at the NW Film Forum, it plays for a week.. Come by for part of yer cinco de mayo stuff and say hello..

COMMUNE follows the adventures of the Black Bear Ranch, a seminal anarchistic commune and their kids from 1968 till today. Descended out of the San Francisco counterculture, Black Bear launched with the motto "Free Land for Free People." The only snag was that freedom meant something different for each person who arrived at the Northern California wilderness. Their quest for utopia ultimately tested the core of each of their souls...

"They threw themselves body and soul into group living in one of California's most radical and durable communities...the 60's gets it's most honest appraisal yet." Robert Koehler, Variety

Ric Garcia and his veggie oil bus will be there as will all sorts of groups. We are attempting to create a space, something like a mini Woodstock meets Burning Man meets a good ol' alternative movie screening. There is space for booths for progressive and other cool groups.

... check out the trailer and the growing group of our Seattle film and alt friends. http://www.myspace.com/communethemovie

Thanks! Jonathan Berman, Director of "Commune"

Hello my fellow burners,

I'm really taking a liberty by calling y'all that because I myself am not yet a true burner. This is my first year and I am so excited, yet my best friend and I hit a major bump in the road last night, so to speak. On our way to buy supplies for BM, our car got nailed in an intersection and we won't be able to repair it before the trip (*what do you know, we drained our finances on the trip and now we can't afford the repairs before insurance comes through!*). The good news is that no one got hurt- Yay!! But now, with a week and a half before the event and not enought money to rent a car, we need to call upon the rest of the community for help. We really are nice people, I promise it will be a good thing to have us there, if by chance any of you can help us make that happen, well, we would be soooo unbelievably grateful. Also, important to note- we are in Seattle and we both have to work on Monday 8/29, so we can' leave until 6pm or later on the 29th or any time on Tuesday (we want to get there as soon as possible of course, but understand that beggars can't be choosers). We need to be home safely by the following Monday night 9/5 (I don't know, by like midnight or something??). We can cover gas of course, or whatever other trade or barter will help our kind-hearted saviour. The options we are open to explore are these: just get a ride with someone (will need room for stuff, unless one of the big trucks heading down would let us throw our stuff on before you go?? Burner Dave, I met you on Vashon 4th of July last year and I sooo wish I had a way to contact you now!!), get rides with seperate someones (we're friends and there are only 2 of us, but we're not attached at the hip or anything), Get someone with ample cargo space, but no passenger space, to take our stuff down and we'll go greyhound to Reno and need a rideshare from Reno to BRC? Any other offers, suggestions, or good vibes would be sooooo amazing- thank you for reading our plea!!! ~~Katie & Lisa
